I am not really sure what I hope to learn. Death interests me, if only because of the mystery surrounding what happens after death. Death always surrounds us, either directly or symbolically. I suppose that I would like to know some of the "established" views of death.
I think this course is about studying the concept of death and trying to understand what we know about it. I hope to learn about death and dying in the medical field, what it means to die, and how people perceive death.
I think that the class is really about how life and death go hand in hand. I believe that from this class we will gain a healthy understanding of death and the true value of life. I think that making the most of life is something that can only be motivated by understanding death. What I would like more understanding of is the concept of after death... after life? Is there any basis to the idea of life after death?
I think the class will deal with many morale dilemmas in a way on the concept of death and you will try to ask us which way is right or wrong in a sense and you will try to show us that it is not that simple as you were saying in class our world is made up of more and more grey instead of black and white.
I think this particular course on death and dying is more about death as an idea/concept. I think we will be expected to share what we know or think about death. I hope to learn more about death and what exactly it means to die. I would also like to know about the afterlife and if it really exists.
I think this course is about the concept of living versus the concept of death. It is about the existence of the soul and mortality. I think we will also talk about morality and what it means to different people to actually be alive. I would like to learn more about, as Charles put it, the "established" views of the meaning of death. It would also be interesting to see what kind of conclusions were drawn about death in the past compared to the research that is being done in the present.
I believe that this course is about broadening our understanding on life and death. Both are complicated subject of which most have their own basic understanding of. I believe it is a class that is meant to challenge us on our own way of thinking and answer the question of why we believe what we believe. I hope to learn more about what other believe and how it corresponds with my own way of thinking.
I want to be able to come to grips with my own mortality and no longer fear it. I'm looking forward to hearing how other people deal with issues of death and dying as well as their outlook on it. Hopefully after hearing others' opinions on the matter, I will be able to become more at ease with my own mortality and find peace of mind.
Each experience with death brings on new emotions, different awareness levels and further introspections on the whole concept / event. I have struggled in life to come to terms with the whole process of death and the afterlife. Hopefully this class will give me more tools, more perspectives to deal with and accept it for what it truly means to me in life.
I don't really have a good idea of what I expect from this class. I have known people who have died but that is not the reason I took the class. I don't have anything specific I hope to learn but it sounds interesting.
Death is a universal and complicated subject that has,is, and always will be embedded deep into the human psyche and its culture. This course i'm sure will cover what the definition of death is, along with some scary stories of premature burial. We will probably have lengthy discussions on the cooping mechanisms of our own death as well as deaths of others. We will take about happens after we die. Is there an afterlife? Do I have a soul? Will my morality in life affect me after death?, etc. Some of these questions will lead to other ones of a more metaphysical nature. What makes me, me? Will i cease to exist when i die? I also expect at least student to storm out of the classroom after a heated argument on religion.
Death effects people in many different ways. It brings about many different emotions and reactions. I think that this class will cover not only the definition of death, but also the effect death has on people. I think that there will be many tense discussions as well as funny ones considering the personality of our professor. I expect to learn a lot from this class. Death will be something I experience and deal with on a day to day basis as a nurse. Im excited and very interested to see what this class has to offer and what insight I can offer to other students in the class.
Due to the fact that death will inevitably affect each and every person, I think it is important to have a grasp on what one thinks and feels abut it. For many people (at least those in the health care professions), death is something that must be dealt with on almost a weekly basis. I know from experience working in an animal hospital that many people handle death very differently. Going into the medical field has a great influence on my expectations for the course. I hope to leave this course at the close with a better understanding of not only what death and the dying process means to me, but also gain an illuminated perspective on how others view it as well. I feel that this can only benefit me in the future. After all, almost every career path has some aspect of dealing with people and their perceptions. Understanding the "why" behind people can only help you to relate to them. My father always told me to learn how to "read" people.
Death is going to happen and it is going to be a part of everyone's life. My expectations for this course are to not only learn about death, but different ways to handle death and to come to terms with it. Death can bring on many different emotions and cause people to react in certain ways. Hopefully we will be able to discuss those emotions and different way to handle them.
I figure this class will look at how people deal with death and how different cultures view death. I don't expect this class to be super depressing, but more insightful than anything. Overall i plan on learning some new views on death and how to better deal with death in general.
I want to learn how to be comfortable with death, and also do my best to "understand" the process of death and dying. I hope we can have fun, but also get alot accomplished this semester
